The Bridegroom is Life

Summit and March | 20th, June

I recently attended the March for Life in Washington, DC. In all my years, I have never attended the March for Life, so I was very excited to be marching for the first time to show my support of life. I was so blessed to be traveling with a ministry called, Mission Love and Life. This youth-focused ministry has a mission to promote love and life and to live as Jesus intended, with respect, dignity, faithfulness, honor, and integrity. Then, we are to go out and spread this message of love to bring life to all those we meet.

My adventure to the March for Life as a chaperone for 100 high school students was a beautiful way to experience the March for my first time. I was so edified at the commitment and vitality of these young people who were standing up for this basic right to life. Our first stop was Life Fest, sponsored by the Sisters of Life. In this enormous venue, I heard speaker after speaker share stories and give testimonies of unplanned pregnancies, with some who chose abortion and some who did not. I witnessed the beautiful reverence for God in the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, for which I counted 4 bishops and over 60 priests on the altar, as well as hundreds of religious sisters and brothers who were in attendance. It was such a blessed morning and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist gave us all the strength we needed to bear the cold weather and withstand the elements during the 3-hour outdoor March ahead of us.

Arriving at the March, we bundled up, prepared our signs, and headed to the starting point. There was an obvious joy in the crisp air. People were laughing, smiling, enjoying themselves, and not at all bothered by the chilly temps. The crowd was poised to begin the March after some fiery speeches and words of encouragement on the hill from pro-life speakers such as Governor Ron Desantis, pro-surfer Bethany Hamilton, President of Live Action Lila Rose, Vice President JD Vance and even a zoom in from President Trump. This all helped to fuel the crowd of excited pro-life supporters, ready to begin our trek. Once the March began, I was so overwhelmed by, not only the vast crowd of marchers, but the sheer happiness of them all. There was music, cheering, life chants, color-coordinated group hats, a plethora of amazing signage, women, men, babies, old people, young people, walkers, wheelchair riders, people from every walk of life, coming together in a united and peaceful way to promote the gift of life. I felt as if Jesus, Our Lady, Joseph, the angels and all the saints were marching alongside us and interceding for us on this beautiful day!

Jesus provided for us a gorgeous, clear, sunny day which did not feel nearly as cold as the thermometer was proclaiming. He brought many hundreds of thousands of His brothers and sisters to demonstrate their support for the most basic and beautiful gift of life. He kept our March peace-filled and washed in His love and I witnessed what it means to be fully alive! Looking into the faces of these marchers filled me with such a sense of His Presence. The gift of His very life, given to us on the Cross, was so present to me and my heart was filled to overflowing with the conviction of this reality. The Bridegroom is life and He needs me to witness to this life by, not only marching on this day, but by the way I live my existence day to day… promoting life in my words, actions, and thoughts; by the way I treat others, think about others and lead my Christian life of blessings.

I spoke and prayed personally with a lovely woman who had been fed the lies of the culture that abortion is no big deal and would solve her problem without any lasting effects. She confided in me that she had been using abortion as birth control and had suffered four abortions over the years and even now, so many years later, she is still affected by her choices. She marches every year to share her story of heartbreak, misguided trust, lack of education, and regret. But, more importantly, she marches to show the power of Christ’s forgiveness, the gift of His unfathomable mercy, and the amazing healing power of His incredible love for her as his beloved.

Hearing such a heartfelt story was something I had not expected. I was so shocked and yet so moved by her courageous sharing and I felt that the Lord was really healing this broken and beautiful woman through the gift of His grace. She spoke with confidence and poise in a way that was so filled with Christ that I was, of course, moved to tears… not only for what had happened and the lives that had been lost, but for the beautiful way that Jesus swooped in and brought her to Himself – not in judgement or condemnation, but in answer to the cry for help from her heart. Our Bridegroom is LIFE and life meant to be lived to the fullest. In this gift of life, we are each called to greatness. We are each called to step out in faith and in trust that Our Bridegroom, the Bridegroom of Life, desires our integrated hearts, minds, bodies and souls for Him, to glorify Him.

What an amazing experience in the fullness of life! I was so filled when we walked back to our hotel after the March. I don’t even remember a second of being cold, and for me, that’s a miracle! I may just have to make the March, and this encounter with the Bridegroom of Life, an annual adventure!

Love is the Answer

Summit and March | 20th, June

(OSV News) — Driving to Washington for a morning rally ahead of the 2023 March for Life, Pete and Tricia DeMaio did something unusual for a family road trip: they decided upon names for the two children that the couple — high school and college sweethearts — had lost to abortion prior to their marriage.

Selecting the names was a family decision, made by the DeMaios and their seven surviving children, who suggested Raphael (after the archangel and patron of healing) and Maria (for St. Maria Goretti, a patron of forgiveness).

“Now those two babies have a name,” Pete DeMaio, a Philadelphia-area businessman and pro-life advocate, told those gathered at the first-ever Life Fest, which took place Jan. 20 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington’s Congress Heights neighborhood…

A Weekend of Blessings

Summit and March | 19th, June

Dear Pete & Tricia,

I want to thank you for a great weekend. I really feel, as though God wanted me to be on this weekend. The way it unfolded, I got a thought laying in bed Monday night/Tuesday morning I should go on the March for Life. I reached out to Jenny, and by later Tuesday morning I was going on the trip! I have been on the March for Life in past years, but never for the weekend with the Life Fest and the Summit!

It was so much more than I could have imagined. The beautiful mass at the Eaglebank Arena with the Sisters of Life was magnificent. You could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. Everyone was reverent and focused on the God! They really wanted to be there.
Then the March was awesome. It is invigorating to see so many other people, fighting for the precious babies who are aborted, the Holy Innocence, together with one voice! At home on a day-to-day basis, you feel alone, but when we come together in numbers, you feel inspired and ignited! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to many of the people give their testimonies….especially you guys. I have heard your story a few years ago, but it impacted me much more this time around. I’m sure there were different parts I hadn’t heard before, plus seeing the slides….mostly because I got to spend time with you and got to know you better. I met your beautiful family and I feel honored to know you all.

The Basilica was UNBELIEVABLE. I must got back there. I cannot believe how AMAZING it was. I was walking about in disbelief. I don’t think I have seen anything so beautiful before. And I don’t feel I got to spend enough time there. I was just walking around crying. It just moved me in such a way. If something can be that beautiful here on Earth and made by man, can you imagine what heaven will look like?!

Lastly, and most importantly, and I touched on this already, it’s the people that I got to meet, some for the first time, some I have met briefly before, and others I have known for years, but the time together has just bonded us even closer! I was sad for our time to come to an end, but look forward to seeing everyone soon.
I know A LOT of hard work went into planning this weekend. Thank you is not enough. It is hard work, stressful and just plain tiring….
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I enjoyed every minute of it!
God Bless You and God Bless All of your efforts.

From Curiosity to Transformation

Theology of the Body | 24th, February

This year was my first time attending the March for Life, as well as the Pro Life Summit, and saying that I left feeling inspired, would be an understatement. I had never been to the Summit before but as I learned about all the talks I could attend, I became overwhelmed with excitement. As I was going through the pamphlet trying to figure out what talk I should attend, I saw T.O.B (Theology Of the Body) and immediately knew where I wanted to be.

Then I realized that it was being given by Mr. and Mrs. DeMaio and became even more resolved that I wanted to attend this session. My first experience with TOB was actually at a talk Mr. DeMaio gave a year or two ago at a local high school and Mission Love and Life were handing out copies of Christopher West’s Theology of the Body For Beginners. I absentmindedly took a copy because I knew JPII had written it and figured that it must be good, also it was free, who’s not gonna take a free book? Little did I know that that absentminded action would lead me on a path of not only discovering more about myself, but about what it means to love and goodness knows that as a teenager I definitely need some help in that department.

Theology of the Body For Beginners got me through one of the most difficult parts of my high school career and I kid you not, I would not be who I am today without it. However, reading what it means to love and hearing a testimony of what that love looks like are two different things. Being able to listen to Mr. and Mrs. DeMaio’s story and to see the emotions on both of their faces as they discussed their lives together, touched my heart in a very special way. Society tells us that love is supposed to look or act a certain way but society has it all wrong and if we listen to the way society tells us we should love, we’ll likely end up feeling hurt or confused and that is certainly not what God desires for us.

Seeing and hearing Mr. and Mrs. DeMaio’s story was a beautiful reminder that while none of us will ever be perfect, God’s love for us is and our relationships should reflect the love that He has for each and every single one of us.

Our God is a living God

Faith, Hope, Love | 21st, February

Our God is a Living God. In every present moment he is there. I know it seems hard to visualize this Holy and Divine Love in the chaotic busy world we live in. In a place where Goodness, Beauty, and Truth is under attack. The assault on the very essence of a soul’s existence in the womb today, has become so normalized that society doesn’t believe they are even human beings.

Today at the Students For Life Summit 2025 , we had the opportunity to experience the beautiful witness of the Transforming Love that Our Living God has given to Pete and Tricia DeMaio. If you don’t believe in living miracles of God then you must hear the story of Pete and Tricia. How Our Almighty God is using them as a living, modern day example that He is and always walking with us. Ready to take us back with open arms like the prodigals we are. When you hear how Pete and Tricia have opened their hearts and their lives to allow Christ to transform them and shine through them to help so many heal from the wounds of abortion. You will feel the genuine love and joy they have in this Mission of Love and Life. Their testimony is real and you feel in your heart. You begin to understand the reality of this tragedy of abortion and how it affects all of us.

The conference room we were in was packed wall to wall with young and old alike. There was not a dry eye in the house. The riveting testimony of how the Holy Spirit has moved them from shame, despair and grief to Redeemed, Reconciled, and Restored should be heard by all who are broken.

Our God wants to heal us and he has given us Pete and Tricia as examples of his Unfathomable Love, Mercy, and Forgiveness. He has Blessed them with 7 beautiful children and has given the world an example of how he restores the beauty of the family even when we mess up.
As they walked us through their journey of the real life darkness of being separated from God through their sin. They openly share how their pain from abortion was tearing them apart, not realizing how deeply in their souls they were wounded!

If you are in a place where you feel the weight of your sin or your deeply wounded from abortion you need to hear the life saving testimony of Pete and Tricia DeMaio. No matter what you have done, no matter how many scars you have , the radical Love of God’s Mercy and Forgiveness will be shown to you through their story. I highly recommend that all teenagers especially our young men hear this testimony. Pete shows how he was affected by abortion. I believe this is so important because our society tells men they don’t have a voice in what a woman does with her body. Pete shows the devastating effect it has on him and how his grief was real. Our young men need to see the truth that these beautiful babies are just as much apart of them spiritually as they are apart of their mothers physically. I encourage if you have the opportunity to hear this beautiful story of Faith, Hope, and Love. You should not hesitate to attend.

You will be inspired and ignited through the testimony of Pete and Tricia of what Christ has done through their brokenness to restore them to all that is Good, Beautiful, and True!

Testimonial from the National Pro-Life Summit

1/25/25

At Saturday’s Summit, I attended Pete and Tricia’s talk along with many from Mission Love and Life, including my 15- and 14-year-old daughters, Kate and Caroline. There were several great speakers taking to the podiums at the same time, but I decided that even though I have heard their story, I wanted to support them.

The conference room was packed. It was standing-room-only, much to the chagrin of the organizers. During their hour-long presentation, Pete and Tricia exceeded my expectations.

They spoke from the heart; they were vulnerable and funny and raw and real. They are both wonderful storytellers, but more than that, they are able to relate profound messages of faith, life, responsibility, and the Truth of God’s mercy and love to seekers of every age. I felt a kinship with them as a wife and a mother who, like everyone, has experienced suffering and loss and repentance and a deep desire to grow in relationship with God as well as share the richness of this relationship with my children. Their visually rich storytelling, enlivened with emotion and vulnerability, also invited me to recall my own youth and young adulthood and examine them with honesty, repentance, and the openness to God’s mercy. Their talk inspired me even further as I listened to my daughters reflect on their experience.

Neither had heard Pete and Tricia’s story before that day. Caroline was both surprised and full of compassion, admiration, and love for them and their family. Kate was so moved, she and the boy of the same age whom she is dating, took a break from the talks after this session to sit and talk about what they had heard. The depth of Pete and Tricia’s love and the profundity of their commitment to each other affected them greatly, inspiring them to continue talking about these themes on their own.

When we returned home, Kate and I continued to discuss Pete and Tricia’s story and the themes of Theology of the Body with which she is familiar. This young woman who is quiet, introverted, a deep thinker, and incredibly sensitive, actually raised her voice and shouted, “I am so grateful I heard that talk! How could I possibly have missed that? I had to be there. I just had to hear what they shared. Everyone needs to know about this! About life, family, and how to love one another!”

Pete and Tricia are sharing what so many kids, young adults, and parents need to hear. Amidst the passion of the pro-life movement, with its call to cultural and political renewal based on protecting the most vulnerable and supporting the family, Pete and Tricia are infusing thismovement with an invitation to return to what is most true and good and beautiful in the world.

They insist that to be pro-life is not just about saving babies and supporting mothers and fathers; they insist that it is to be pro-family, open to life in all its beauty and challenges and sufferings. Because to desire to protect life, we first must commit to opening our hearts to God—to calling on Him, listening to Him, and being obedient to Him.

Their mission of supporting life, by definition, encourages this openness to love. As Karol Wojtiyla tells us, “[With love], the person no longer wishes to be its own exclusive property, but instead to become the property of the other. This means the renunciation of its autonomy and its inalienability. Love proceeds by way of this renunciation, guided by the profound conviction that it does not diminish and impoverish, but quite the contrary, enlarges and enriches the existence of the person…[T]he lover ‘goes outside’ the self to find a fuller existence in another” (Love and Responsibility, pp.125-126).

I think this is the greatest significance of Pete and Tricia’s work as reflected in their Summit talk. Faithful young people as well as adults desire to be called to something great—something that calls us to renounce our selfish “autonomy” and through Christ be “convicted” into a love that “enlarges and enriches” us and the other.

We are ready for this Mission of Love and Life.
